Snake

See! Over there!
Head hidden between two rocks
from those persistent jays
who screech for all the world to see
A snake is here!

He hasnt moved for almost an hour.
At last they have tired of his patience
and have flown away
to more important business.

Unheeded now, he emerges
and crosses the hot sand of the country road,
leaving behind
only the twisted line
of his passing.
